Frequently Asked Questions

Skin Health, Product Safety & The Environment

At Adorn we believe in the importance of getting safer & kinder products into the hands of everyone, and with animal testing still being conducted and over 80,000 chemicals on the market today (many without any safety data) - we think both our customers and innocent creatures deserve better.

Chemicals that can cause cancer, reproductive harm, and other serious health issues are not all banned in skincare and colour cosmetic products that people use every day, day after day, and whilst consumers are free to make their own judgments about safety and the products they use, it is also something that Adorn can help do something about and for that, we will.

Adorn is committed to making the safest products we can, without harming animals and keeping sustainability at the forefront of all our decisions.

It’s important to note that chemicals across the board are not all bad for us. In fact, our body is made up of chemicals, and so is everything else, including food and water. 'Toxic' chemicals are bad for us - even safe ingredients can become toxic or an allergen at high concentrations.

It is important that when researching beauty ingredients you do so from a reputable source, because whilst not all synthetic chemicals are bad, natural chemicals are not all good either.

Does Adorn provide samples and are they free?

Adorn samples are not free but they are great value and help minimise unnecessary beauty waste. You can find them located under the SAMPLE heading of the website.

Proudly one of the only online beauty brands in the world to offer ongoing sampling and not just for new product promotions; samples are extremely popular with our customers to ensure correct production selection before committing to a full size product, that may, or may not be suitable.

The number of applications and sample sizes will vary between product types. For example, a foundation sample may give you 2 applications (depending on the coverage you desire), whereas a mineral blush for example, may give you around 5 applications as much less  of this product type is needed to test for suitability. Each sample however is filled to give customers an adequate and fair trial of the product, based on 1. obtaining the correct colour match, and 2. testing for personal suitability.

For customers that would rather go into a store to test a product, Adorn Stockists are listed here - https://adorncosmetics.com.au/stockists-detail

Please note: purchasing samples does not subscribe you to any monthly subscription service.

Why does Adorn make smaller batches?

Adorn produces smaller beauty batches and more frequently to ensure product freshness at all times. And since we are an online business only we manufacture our range to more cloesly match that of the demand from our customers.

Our 'demand = supply' approach to production means that we never over produce avoiding stock going out of date, or just not selling it and then sadly ending up in landfill.  Adorn products therefore rarely sit on the shelf for long before being sold, and at times it may mean an item is out of stock for a day or two while we make it.

Adorn makeup and skincare contain organic ingredients and certified organic ingredients where possible.

Mineral ingredients are however just as natural as organic ingredients as they are naturally occurring.

What it the Parfum preservative?

Parfum is the INCI (global standard) name given to a completely natural, broad spectrum preservation system from non-genetically modified plant material, approved by ACO*.

Do Adorn products contain Teflon or PFAS chemicals?

No.

What are Teflon or PFAS chemicals?

To identify these potentially harmful ingredients in other brands look at your product labels for the term “fluoro” which may appear in a longer name, such as perfluorononyl or perfluorodecalin. You should also look for PTFE.

What ingredients provide the SPF in your mineral foundations?

The SPF 20+ in Adorn's Loose Mineral Foundation comes from non-nano Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxides.

Can I apply the loose mineral foundation around my eyes?

Yes you can, however it is recommended only a light dusting (no buffing) is applied over the delicate eye area. For more coverage use our mineral concealers.

Why doesn’t Adorn use talc?

Although talc is a mineral, it is drying, considered toxic and a known carcinogen. Adorn products will never contain talc.

Are Adorn products gluten free?

The term "gluten-free" can be labelled on any product should the gluten content not exceed 20 mg/kg.

To our knowledge, our products do not contain gluten, a protein found primarily in wheat and other grains.

We encourage customers who have serious allergies to consult a doctor or conduct a patch test before using any product.

The Night Repair Facial Oil contains wheat germ oil, but the trace of gluten in the wheatgerm oil does not exceed 5 mg/kg.

Are your products safe for pregnancy?

Adorn Cosmetics are certified by Safe Cosmetics Australia to be allergen & toxin free, and made safe with natural and organic ingredients.

We do however suggest seeking advice from a medical professional if you have any concerns regarding ingredients or products in the Adorn range. Simply copy the ingredients from our website for the product you are interested in and discuss with your doctor.

Does Adorn use parabens?

Parabens are preservatives that are commonly used in products such as soap, shampoo, deodorant and makeup. While parabens are considered safe for use in cosmetics there is growing evidence questioning their safety and as such we avoid using them in Adorn formulations.

Are your products preservative free?

Cosmetic products that contain water or aloe must contain a preservative to protect the product from bacteria and going off.

Preservatives are needed for health, safety and product performance. Adorn uses a certified organic preservative listed as *parfum in our products.

Adorn's airless packaging retains the integrity and performance of our premium ingredients, and also prevents oxidization from air and bacteria contaminating the product.

With the absence of water or aloe, preservatives are not required for oils or loose mineral cosmetics.

Why doesn't Adorn use bismith oxychloride?

If you've experienced skin irritation using mineral makeup previously, particularly in hot weather and don't know why, the inclusion of Bismuth Oxychloride in some brands maybe the cause.

Bismuth Oxychloride is actually a by-product of refined lead and copper and has a pearlescent look to increase luminosity in some mineral makeup formulations. Many people, including sufferers of acne and rosacea, will find that using products containing this ingredient will most likely irritate their skin.
