Made Here, For You: An Interview With Papermoon
For Australian Made Week, Adorn Cosmetics is celebrating the founders, families and brands creating thoughtful products right here in Australia.
As part of our Made Here, For You campaign, we sat down with Louisa and Jeremy from Papermoon to talk about sustainability, low-tox living, Australian manufacturing and what it truly means to build a conscious family-owned brand.
Founders & Origin Story
What was the moment that made you realise you wanted to create Papermoon, and where did the name come from?
Jeremy and I realised we wanted to create a sustainable brand when we started our own family. We wanted to use low-tox products on ourselves and low-waste products in our home.
The name Papermoon came from using recycled “paper” for the packaging of our products, while “moon” represents the daily ritual of applying skincare and personal care.

How did your personal values and lifestyle shape the brand from the very beginning?
Jeremy and I live by the beach in Melbourne and spend a lot of time in the water, whether it’s swimming, boating or beach walks with the family. We’ve always been conscious of our impact on waterways and the environment, so we knew whatever we created needed to be environmentally responsible.
Building a brand together as a family is special. How has that journey been for you both?
Building a business together has been incredibly rewarding. It’s been really special celebrating the wins as a family and showing our children firsthand that hard work pays off.
Creating something meaningful together has given us more time as a family, which we really value. It has also taught us to trust each other’s ideas and create collaboratively. Our kids have loved watching the business grow and proudly sharing the products with their friends.

What “Australian Made” Means To You
As a family-owned business, what does being Australian made truly mean to you, beyond just where the product is created?
Being Australian made gives us hope for future industry and employment in Australia. It means we’re contributing to the local economy and supporting other Australian families and businesses through local manufacturing.
It’s also a more sustainable option and allows us to have complete transparency over how our products are made.
Do you feel Australian consumers are becoming more conscious about supporting local brands?
Absolutely. I think most Australians genuinely want to support Australian-made products. Sometimes price can influence purchasing decisions, but overall Australians are incredibly proud of what we produce locally and want to support local businesses wherever possible.
Your packaging is completely plastic-free and compostable. What challenges did you face bringing that to life?
Many. Sustainability often comes with compromise and challenge. There were some products we initially wanted to create that simply weren’t possible within the packaging standards we wanted to maintain.
Because our packaging is compostable, the branding naturally doesn’t hold up as long as traditional plastic packaging would. It’s also significantly more expensive to produce and difficult to find manufacturers willing to work with these materials.
At the same time, we understand some customers still prefer the convenience and practicality of plastic packaging, so balancing sustainability with consumer expectations can be challenging.
Why do you believe more people are switching to aluminium-free deodorants, and what should they look for when choosing one?
We believe more people are moving toward aluminium-free deodorants because consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the ingredients in their everyday products and are looking for cleaner, more natural alternatives.
One important thing to remember is that deodorant and antiperspirant are not the same thing. A deodorant is designed to stop odour, while an antiperspirant works to stop sweating.
We also recommend avoiding formulas containing bi-carb if you have sensitive skin, as it can be irritating for some people. Sometimes it takes trying a few different brands before finding the right fit for your body.
Why do you think collaborations between Australian brands are so important right now?
When Australian-made brands support each other, it creates a sense of community and old-fashioned Aussie mateship. Collaborations help build trust and show confidence between brands, which customers genuinely connect with.
Most importantly, supporting one another helps local businesses grow and creates more opportunities for Australian manufacturers too. It becomes a win-win for everyone involved.
What excites you most about partnering with like-minded brands like Adorn?
We’re excited to partner with Adorn because it’s a brand that genuinely shares our sustainability values. We love being able to introduce our community to another conscious Australian-made beauty brand and gift our customers products that align with what we believe in.
Looking Ahead
What’s next for Papermoon?
As we move into our third year in business, we’re looking toward expanding into overseas markets. We believe there’s a strong demand for Australian-made clean personal care in Europe and parts of Asia.
At the same time, we’ll continue growing our beautiful community here in Australia and New Zealand.
Made Here, For You
At Adorn Cosmetics, we believe Australian made is about more than where a product is manufactured. It’s about community, transparency, sustainability and supporting brands that genuinely care.
Papermoon is a beautiful example of what happens when thoughtful design, conscious living and family values come together.
This Australian Made Week, we’re proud to celebrate Papermoon as part of our Made Here, For You campaign.
