Skincare For Dry Skin

Dry skin needs comfort, not complexity
When skin feels tight, flaky or rough - or foundation starts catching on dry patches - the goal is to rebuild comfort with gentle cleansing, water-based hydration and the right amount of moisturising richness.
Build a simple dry-skin routine
1. Cleanse gently: choose a milk, oil or balm cleanser if stronger cleansers leave the skin feeling tight.
2. Add water-based hydration: a hyaluronic gel or serum can help when the skin feels dehydrated as well as dry.
3. Moisturise according to how dry you actually are: use a lighter cream for everyday dryness and move to a richer cream or balm only when the skin needs more comfort.
4. Add oil selectively: face oil can be useful on drier nights or over areas that still feel tight after moisturiser.
5. Protect during the day: finish the morning routine with sunscreen.
Dry skin and changing skin are not exactly the same thing
Mature skin can be dry, but it can also be combination, sensitive or dehydrated. If your skin feels tight but still becomes shiny, you may need hydration rather than simply a heavier cream.
When makeup starts looking dry
Do not automatically add more foundation. Improve skin prep first, allow moisturiser to settle, then use the least amount of foundation needed to even the complexion.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my skin still feel dry after moisturiser?
You may be dehydrated as well as dry, using a cleanser that is too stripping, or using a moisturiser that is not the right texture for your skin.
Should dry mature skin use oil?
It can, but it is optional. Add oil when cream alone is not enough rather than treating it as a compulsory step.
How often should I exfoliate dry skin?
Less is often more. Exfoliate gently and only as often as your skin tolerates; over-exfoliation can make dryness and sensitivity feel worse.
