Hey, I'm Briony Kennedy, the founder of Adorn Cosmetics. Today, I'm going to show you my favorite "no makeup" makeup look. Now, you might like to use this for going to work, the weekend, or it could just be, like me, an everyday makeup look that is simple to put together but also helps to protect your skin. So, first up, I'm going to prep my skin. Your skin prep may be a little bit different from mine, and that's completely fine. The key here is to make sure that you're using products that are going to help protect your skin for the day, keep it really well-hydrated, but of course, balance it out so that your makeup applies as nicely and as evenly as possible. You also always want to make sure that the skin preparation ingredients and the products you're using and your makeup work in synergy. If you find your foundation is separating, it could be that you're using too much or maybe you're not allowing your skincare to settle for long enough. So, maybe reduce the amount of skincare you're using or just allow it to settle a little bit longer. Now, I'm going to first of all spritz my skin with the Adorn rose water, a beautiful natural Bulgarian distilled rose water – nothing synthetic. It's very hydrating and plumping for the skin. What it also does is allow your serums to penetrate a little bit further. So, I've just put on our vitamin C in the Plantsutical range, the 20 percent vitamin C. Of course, you can put that on your neck and your décolletage when your skin is damp. It does allow the skin to absorb your ingredients from your serum, or your serum just to penetrate that a little bit further, rather than just targeting dry, dehydrated skin. Then, what I do is I put about half a pump of primer. Our Hydration Primer I'm going to start by applying our hydration primer onto my face, and of course, my neck. Really get that into your lips as well, into the eyebrows because you can be quite dry in there and really work that product in. Okay, and then being a more mature Facial Oil dehydrated skin type, but again, any skin type can use this step is using a facial oil. Now think of your moisturizers or your primers as the drink that the skin needs. Think of your facial oils as the food and the nutrients that the skin needs. That's a good way of explaining why a face oil is beneficial, and this one I'm using is the day oil. It helps protect against free radical damage. It's very good for Skin Barrier function, and it's also very antibacterial, non-comedogenic. And even though it is an oil, it's not oily. It actually really absorbs very well, and it's perfect for anyone, but in particular, those of you that have more of a dry dehydrated skin or who are sensitive. It's also really good as a final step for those of you that want to use a loose mineral foundation, which is what I'll be using today, but want more of a dewy appearance. The benefit of the loose minerals is that you can, of course, build that coverage up, so it can be as light or as heavy as you want, but it's got the added bonus of the SPF 20 plus. So any age group can use the loose minerals, but you might find that using a face oil underneath just helps to get that really nice dewy or liquid look to the skin. Now, if you are wanting to use something else for this no makeup makeup look, you can definitely do that. So I'll be using the loose minerals in light to medium, but you could, of course, use a BB cream. You can use our liquid foundation. You might even want to use our cream foundation, maybe you might want to even cut it back further and just spot treat where you need some coverage with a concealer. However you do your base is completely up to you. Now, of course, sunscreen is the final step in your skincare routine. I am not using sunscreen today because I am going to be inside all day, so I'm just going straight to the loose minerals. Now I'm using our best-selling Kabuki brush this has been with us for well over a decade. Kabuki Brush And it is still very, very popular. I know most of our adorners have two or three of these because it does apply any of our bases, whether it's the loose, liquid, or a BB, and even the cream. It's a beautiful buffing tool to get that foundation looking very skin-like and quite flawless, so this is a definite must. It's also very soft; it's a vegan synthetic brush, so it's very soft on the skin. It's not going to agitate the skin, especially those with sensitive skin. You'll find that often it's not the makeup that's causing you issues; it's probably the brushes agitating the skin. Now, when you're buffing your skin, it does actually help to micro-exfoliate, so that's another reason why you want to make sure your brushes are quite soft.Loose Foundation Now I just dip in the corner of my brush. I get about this much on and then I use my lid to press that on. Now, another little tip: if you're happy with just putting your loose foundation straight onto your skin, which has the oil as the last step, fine. If you prefer a slightly heavier or even more dewy look, you can actually spritz your brush with your rose water. That's going to dampen the tips of your brush; it's going to instantly turn the loose into more of a liquid, and it will go on a little bit heavier. So, there's another little tip for you. But if we just press this in, so you'll see I'm actually using a roll press action that pushes the product in. Now, this is the most perfect application step for those of you with dry or dehydrated skin. When you've got dry skin, especially and it's peeling off, you do not want to use a buffing motion as it's going to flick and lift up that dead skin and it's going to look more obvious once your foundation has finished. Now, if you use this pressing motion, all it's doing is pushing the product on. In fact, the same goes with your skincare; try to push it on as opposed to actually buffing that on. I'm just pausing, JC, because there is an airplane. So, the technique of how you'll use your buff brush will also make a significant difference with the final result, so I'm going to continue with the pushing motion of the skin, and I'll probably put a little bit too much initially on my eye, but I do like to put the foundation on my eye because it's got the SPF 20 plus—why wouldn't you? So, very quickly and very simply, look, I haven't done up here just yet, but just this part of my face looks so nice and flawless compared to this side. It's even given my face a bit of a lift; it's definitely covered those dark circles. So, you can see the coverage is just so. Effortless, skin-like, but it's still a little bit on the matte side, so I'm going to show you how you can make that a little bit dewy at the end. So, you can always alter the look of your foundation by what you put underneath and, of course, over the top. Alright, let's pop it on here. Of course, the 20 plus in this particular foundation is also going to be awesome if you've got pigmentation, which you can see is effortlessly covered up here. It's going to protect that from getting worse, especially if you're going to be out in the sun. And that's what I like about the loose minerals. As I said before, I'm not out and about today, so I'm not wearing sunscreen, but this has an SPF of 20 plus. So, in the event I change my mind, I know that I'm covered. So again, I'm still pushing the product in, remembering that if you've got dry or dehydrated skin, pushing your skincare and makeup in is the best advice I can give you, so that you're not lifting up your dead skin. But look at the coverage. That's just blows me away, even after 15 years. Okay, let's just see this disappear, being gentle around the eye. I'm just doing little presses. I'm not dragging the eye at all. Just love it. Okay, now the more frequently you notice every time I move the brush away, I'm dipping it again. So, the more frequently you dip the brush into more product, always making sure you're getting it even on the lid, you're going to get more coverage. If you don't want as much coverage, just less dipping, and you're just spreading the product around a little bit more. It really just depends on what coverage you're comfortable with, what you feel you need, and also, you might just want to spot treat. So, maybe you just want to help even up some redness, maybe you've got a bit of rosacea, maybe you just want to even up some pigmentation. You don't have to use foundation all over the face if you don't want to. I think it's just a habit to rub it all in, but you really don't need to put it everywhere if you don't want to. Now, I personally like to put it on my neck as well. That's simply because of the SPF, and also, if I'm revealing my chest, I'll pop some there too for the same reason. But also, as we get older, it can be a little bit more discolored. Now, you can see that this is an absolute perfect match to my skin. But one of the things that I find with foundation is no matter how good the match, it always looks quite one-dimensional. So, wearing just foundation is not something that I would recommend, as I feel it looks like you've got more makeup on than if you add something for warmth like a bronzer or say a blush. One more tip for your foundation before we move on to the next stage is, if you've got a lot of hair on your face, a lot of blonde hair or dark hair, finish with very light downward pressing or downward strokes. If you don't have dry skin, and what that will do is, it'll just get those hairs to lay flat. Obviously, when you're moving a product around the face, it's going to lift them up, and it's going to make them more obvious. So, doing that will definitely help get them back laying flat. Or you can always maybe try something like dermablating if that's something of a concern for you.Okay, so moving on, the next thing I'm going to do is my brows. Now, the reason I'm going to do my brows before concealing is just that if I get any fallout, it's going to be easy to wipe it away rather than it landing on my concealer, and then I have to start all over again, so brushing my brows to separate the hairs, and in this instance, I'm going to use an angle brush and I'm using the loose brow dust in medium. Okay, so you just dip it, tap off any excess. I always like to just push the brush onto the lid just to get that pigment really on, and then I just go over my brows. Now, we have tutorials on how to shape your brows. This isn't one that I'm going to spend too much time on how to do that, simply because this is more about the no-makeup makeup look. Brows are their own little entity alone on showing you how to do those. I'm not sure where your brows need to be. I think one of the best starting points probably is more your arch. If you're not sure, just to get the height. I'm only placing the brow dust where I need it, okay, which is in the middle here. You can see where I was quite fair. Okay, so I'm just building them up. I'm definitely not filling in my whole brow because I've got quite solid brows and I don't want it to be overtaking my whole face. A couple of little tips I will give you with your brows is this: if you are wanting your eyes to look more lifted and more open, especially if you're older and maybe you've got more of a droopy eye or you've got smaller eyes or even a hooded eye, you want to maybe consider having your brow end a little bit further back from the edge of your eye. Usually, we say, "Okay, work from the edge of your nose, the edge of your eye," and that's kind of where your brow should finish. It definitely shouldn't finish underneath because it's going to give that droopy eye look. But you can take that one step further and start just tweezing a little bit in, because then that's opening up this area here to be wider, giving the illusion of a lift and a more open eye. So, that's number one. Number two, your arch should sit on a diagonal with the tip of your nose, your pupil. It shouldn't sit over here or over here. You're going to get really round all that sort of tadpole effect. And the center of your brow, typically on the side of your nose like this, if you've got a wide nose and you're wanting to make that look smaller, you could definitely bring your brows in a little bit closer. That will create the illusion of a smaller nose. Or if you want to have a larger nose again, you just take it a little bit further out. Okay, so the brows are done. I'm just going to quickly dust in case there was a little bit of fallout. Okay, I also like to just re-brush over the brows because I feel that that separates the mineral brow dust, creates more like a hair effect. Now I'm going to use our Concealer. Our best-selling Peachy Sleep Concealer, can't keep up with the production of this, it is amazing. Now, obviously, this foundation has hidden my tremendously dark circles, and you saw those a moment ago. It's just one of those things that I just have genetically. And the less fat tissue you have here as you get older, the more those things become prominent because you're seeing all of the veins and things from underneath. There's nothing really you can do about that except for cover it up. So, I'm now going to use the Peachy Sleep Concealer, and this is an under-eye concealer. It's a corrective concealer that has a peach undertone which helps correct blue and black. So, it's perfect for someone like myself who's got those dark circles. And look at that, absolutely covers it and gives instantly. This side of my face has got a nice lift, it looks healthier, it's got light, and the healthiest no-makeup makeup look or any look. Giving yourself that warmth and light or darkened light, contour, and light, all of these different elements you can introduce, even simply, will create the most natural finish, rather than just flat, one-dimensional looks. So, let's pop this on the other side. And I always get right in the corner of the eye because that's quite dark for most people. And I'm using my ring finger. I find you can't be tempted to put too much pressure. And of course, you want to protect that skin underneath. Then what I do is I pop some in the corner of my eye. We're all a little bit red there, and I angle that upwards into the temples. Again, if we can make this area look a little bit lighter, it looks lifted and it's also combating looking tired as well. If you're someone who does wear mascara or eyeliner every day, do make sure that you clean up underneath here, even if you've cleansed in the morning. Grab a cotton tip because you'll find you've still got a little bit of mascara or eyeliner there. And when you start putting concealer on, it's going to grab onto that, no matter how little, and it's going to make that area look quite blue. And it's going to end up making your eyes look gray and tired when you start putting that concealer on.So, that's perfect. That's really good, amazing coverage. Happy with that. Of course, if you want to add some concealer on your spots and bits and pieces, feel free to do that. You might want to opt for something that's more of a skin tone. So, look at our corrective concealers that are the light medium or the medium dark and just spot treat those where you need them. One of the other things I want to mention about concealer is less is more. I do know that most of us want to cover our flaws and we want them gone. It's just impossible to completely cover something 100%. You need to weigh up how much coverage you want versus how much makeup you want to look like you're wearing because you will look like you're wearing makeup if you make it quite heavy. And of course, I'd like to think that you're smiling throughout the day, especially if you're someone like myself who's more mature. You've got fine lines, and those products may end up gravitating and making those areas look worse. So, it's about finding what you're happy with from a coverage perspective but not using anything to go in relation to the "no, no," we've got a few more steps left before achieving the beautiful and healthy look of my skin. And that is using our Corrective Compact or the Corrected Contour compact. Now, if you're not someone who loves wearing bronzer or you just can't find a tone that you like, the Corrective Contour also doubles as a bronzer. It's an amazing product, and it's a really good color for most people, especially if you've got fair skin. Even darker skins can benefit from it. But if you're finding that bronzers look quite orange on you, then you're going to love this product. Not only will you be able to contour with it, but it's an awesome bronzer. I love this one for my no makeup makeup look because it's seamless and really easy to blend. Just use one of your larger brushes and swirl that on. You can layer this up and make it as warm or as dark as you want, but I'm just going for a little bit of light coverage. Now, the shape that I'm creating here is following my hairline. It's like a number three. Then, I'm going underneath the cheekbones a bit here. Next, I'm going back in front of you and along the jawline, so it's like a three. The reason I like doing it this way is that it's super quick, suits most face shapes, and provides warmth with structure. It's going to give a little bit of a shadow down the forehead, so instantly I look warmer on this side. And you'll see when I finish off how much healthier this side looks. It's also going to double as giving me a more defined cheekbone. If you've got quite a narrow face, which I am starting to as I'm getting older, maybe don't pop it under the cheekbone. You could probably pop it on the top, and then it doubles up as a blush bronzer as well. Along the jaw, simply because it gives me a bit of structure, and especially if you've got skin here that's starting to maybe hang, popping it along the jaw and even just under here a little bit is going to hide that. Remember, darker things look smaller, so the key here, especially if you've got maybe a large forehead, you could take this down a little bit further and make the forehead look a little bit smaller, but also give that health and warmth to the skin. Now, if you've got blonde or gray hair, my tip for you would be just to hold your hand like this and push it into your hand like that so you're not getting it into your hair. If you're wearing your hair up, go behind the ears, even a little over the ears, especially if you tan. When you turn your face, tan doesn't tend to stick to the ears very well. So, using the Contour compact on the ears, see, it just warms that ear up a little bit, so it doesn't look so obvious. There's nothing worse than seeing a really pasty ear. Again, if you've got dry skin, you're pushing this on. But if you don't, of course, you can just buff that on. Look at how healthy this side of my face looks. I have got a bit up here, but just that side looks quite lifeless. The beauty of foundation is it hides things and it looks amazing in respects to hiding all the bits and pieces you don't love. But it also can make you look quite gaunt and sickly if you don't add something in to get that warmth. My preference, I suppose, in each to their own, if you're going to choose one product over another, if it was a blush or a bronzer or this product versus, say, a blush, I would preferably go for a no makeup makeup look just using our Corrective Contour. Because it's such a beautiful color that suits everybody. I tend not to wear blush by itself. If I'm wearing blush, I definitely have something like a bronzer or this Contour compact on first. What's left on my brush, I'm just going to gently go over the rest of my face to bring everything together, so it doesn't disturb the look of my Foundation. But it's seamless, and there's no kind of differentiation between where I've got the Contour and where I've got the makeup, my Foundation. It also just warms up everywhere, just very ever so slightly. Just gently go over the eyes, over the nose, over the brows, so it just brings that all together. Now, a tip here is if you've got quite a dark chest and your neck is quite light, and then your face is another color altogether, as I said before, get a foundation that's going to match your decolletage color. If you can't or you haven't or you've got it wrong, use something like this Corrective Contour compact to darken up the neck so that at least if you're wearing something low, you're going to have a more even look. There is nothing worse and more obvious than you're wearing makeup if your neck's quite white, your chest is quite red or dark, and then your face again is another color altogether. So there's some tips there. One of the things I also do on my no makeup makeup days is whatever's left on the brush as well. I tend to just pinch it like this, and I just run it over my eyes like that. There is no fuss given here. I just get it on, and it just gives me a little bit of color like that. So, it's really just hitting in here. Okay, so that's the eyes' warmth gone. Now, for this particular look, I am just going to show you a little bit of blush if you wanted to add that in. Again, just use a larger brush, is going to give you less intensity. A smaller brush is going to give you more intense color. You could use a cream, you could use our loose minerals if you wanted, you could pick a lipstick color, whatever it is you want to put on your cheeks at this point, completely up to you. I'm using the Winter Blush, one of our best selling blushes. It's a little bit darker than it does on the screen. It's actually maybe twice as dark as that. You find cameras do tend to wash things out a little bit. Pop that on my cheeks just a little bit. I just like to have a little bit of extra different color. That's me again. You don't have to do this step. And if you wanted to, you could use your blush as that no-fuss eyeshadow. Flick on. Okay, so there we have that. And then now you with your eyes, you might just behappy with the lick of mascara fine I'm just going to put on a tiny little bit of our topaz in the crayon this color is so no fuss and it's one of these colors that suits everyone and you can't get it wrong because it's so light it doesn't make it so obvious if you're not great at a smooth line and in fact my no makeup makeup look all I do is I actually just put it on this outer third so it's where I've got this white part of my eye putting it there see how it's ever so slightly given this eye a little bit of a lift okay so just here don't follow the eye too much downwards if you're tempted to what you could do is put your finger there so you can't go beyond the edge of your eye because that's going to give a droopy appearance so you don't want to follow your eye down per se the other thing you can do is if you are a bit sparse with the lashes use this on your wet line so just under here and it will create the illusion of see how much more dense this eye line Looks to this one so it just gives the illusion that you've got more lashes now in the event that you did go down too far with your um with your eyeliner all you need to do is just grab a concealer brush which I don't have with me at the moment but all you'd have to do is just grab a concealer brush with a bit of concealer on it I'm just going to use a finger and you could swap you just swipe up like this and not only will it give you a little bit of a wing with your eyeliner but it will get rid of any of that eyeliner that's fallen down below okay I haven't got enough on to create that Wing but you definitely can do that that's another tip for later on but that's just given a little bit of an emphasis to my eyes now before I do my mascara the last finishing tip that I've got for you if you are finding that you still want that dewiness or more dewiness I would Rosewater probably walk away have a coffee do something else for about 10 or 15 minutes because you'll find the natural oils in your own skin will start to work with your makeup I always find makeup looks so much nicer after about 10 or 15 minutes if you feel that at that point no I know that my Skin's not going to get any more dewy then you can Spritz with your rose water the loose minerals are water resistant so fabulous if you are of a mature skin maybe your menopausal um maybe you just have dry dehydrated skin it will absolutely not only feel beautiful but it will dissolve any of the makeup that's sitting on the hairs and it will also give a dewy appearance to the skin so you can see that already without even using an aluminizer how nice and dewy that is okay then you move on to your mascara now I'm going to show you how to use a lash curler I'm going to put on the Lash primer and then I'm going to jump off camera very quickly to put my mascara on I do not like putting mascara on these tutorials I'm paranoid I'm going to stab Lash Curler myself in the eye okay grab yourself some lash curlers the best tool that you could own to open up your eyes if there's anything that will make your eyes look bigger it is these because it's going to give a length and lift to your lashes the correct way to use them is to pop this top metal area rest it onto your eyelid as close to your lash line as possible and then rather than trying to clamp now you push down come in a bit closer push down and see how it's lifted the lashes up for me so I haven't had to tilt my head or do any nonsense I've just pressed down and I've been able to get hold of all of those lashes then if you've grabbed any of the bottom ones just sort of tilt the corner up because it's usually the ends then what you want to do is Flip Your lash curler up that's giving it a really nice curl at the roots and look at that why wouldn't you use this okay so the other side again the top middle area rested onto your eyelid as close to the Lash line gently press down it's going to pick up these lashes see see that there they are closed down if you get some of these outer lashes just sort of maybe either use a finger or just wiggle it around and you'll get you'll remove them from the clamp then you lift up and release you could do it a second time if you wanted to but not worrying about that today the Lash primer okay so Lash Primer what this is is essentially a product that is going to add thickness and length to your lashes without having to add copious amounts of mascara so often what will happen is people will put more and more and more layers of mascara on to get longer and thicker lashes but what's happening is that you are adding so much black or brown pigment to each lash that it starts to weigh the lashes down and it actually is counter-intuitive and it's going to actually make your lashes drop and look shorter because you find you'll find that your mascara is starting to get them to look really thick but the length is more of a struggle so two coats of mascara is probably ample and I think using this not I think I absolutely know using this primer gets you to that point of longer thicker lashes than if you were to try and do the same thing by using lots of mascara don't do a me and go out with just your primer on and have white eyelashes unless it's a look you're after I have done that and forgotten you don't need to wait for it to dry really um you can if you want I don't really okay so there's the Lush primer just gonna let that dry for a couple of Lipstick seconds um and then I will jump off pop my mascara on but one of the products I love to use for my Note makeup look is the lip glaze again this is a staple in nearly every adorner's bag that I know of it's such a cute little lipstick it's a biodegradable packaging but it's a clear lipstick so if you want something that's a bit more Glam in respects to a gloss this is it it's got a slight flight pearlescent finish but all in all it's a really beautiful gloss and what is great about this is you can use it alone over the top of a lipstick to give that really dewiness and make the lips look a little bit bigger and I also like to use this sometimes just on my cheeks so what I'll do is either use it directly on my skin or I'll just get a little bit and I pop it over the top of my blush to give more of a dewy look on my cheeks so just giving that sort of Health back to the skin love it it's such a beautiful things okay off to do some mascara okay mascara done my last tip if you want even longer looking lashes is you come back with your Lush curler and you curl them again perfect now if you want to put mascara on your lower lashes that's up to you if you don't have a lot of lower lashes then don't put the mascara on because it's just going to draw attention to all of the gaps you're much better off using a brow dust or something that's nice and light and gentle to give that definition underneath the eyes I'm not a lover of black eyeliner underneath the eyes and nor am I inside the rim I think it's incredibly aging and it does make the eyes look very small so if there's one habit maybe you could try and switch would be to get a brown more of an eyeshadow or a brow dust they're a lot softer and a bit more forgiving the same with your mascara if you have more spa slashes or you are more of a fair hair or fair skin try a brown mascara it's a little bit more forgiving in respects to I suppose those lashes that might be missing but also it looks more natural for those of you that have more of a fair skin so just to recap my no makeup makeup look do your skin prep and make sure you give it a chance to soak into the skin if you've got more of a dry dehydrated skin then make sure that you ensure that you push your skin care or your mic and your your makeup onto the face so that you're not lifting that dry skin up and making it more obvious you can use any base that you want it could be just correcting with foundation on the spots you need it could be a full face of foundation liquid cream it could be a bb or it could be of course our loose minerals you can just use a concealer if you wanted to as well but to add warmth remember to use either a bronzer or if you want something that's a little bit Universal and less say orange especially if you're Fair go with the Contour compact it is really beautiful and it's a gorgeous all over the cheeks the eyes the face you can even use it on the body and again if you're wanting to add blush you can it's completely up to you with ours you can use cream or loose over the top of a loose mineral eyes are up to you straight mascara maybe a little bit of eyeliner if you wanted to but definitely a little bit of brow definition and finishing off your lips with either a gloss or my favorite which is the lip glaze.
